Masters of the Air Review

It promises what Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks set out to do with their War trilogy. Here, Band of Brothers tells the horrifying tales of warriors who fought in the battles. Similarly, the Pacific focuses on the story of the soldiers on the sea.No, Master of the Air retells the story of the soldiers on the air.

Based on the works of Donald L. Miller, Master of the Air is a story of the 100th Bomb Group squad. It revolves around the airmen, pilots, and their friends. At its core, it is the story of two brave soldiers who are best friends who have a different look into the world and the war.

Austin Butler as Major Gale Cleven is impressive. It is charismatic and very powerful to see an actor with such a nuanced performance. But sometimes, his dialogue and his accent are not convincing enough on the screen. Similarly, Callum Turner as Major John Egan owns the screen whenever he is in the frame. His commanding and powerful performance gives life to various beautiful moments amidst the chaos on the screen.

Master of Air does feel long with its nine episodes. It sometimes entangles itself with the intricate but not-so-important plot. Similarly, the pacing of the series is a little slow and sometimes very hurried. Unlike the series in the trilogy, it does not take time to evolve the characters and sometimes fails to make a connection to the characters.

Regardless, the series is best when the frame is in the sky. The haunting scenes are somehow portrayed as amazing. The visual of the series became successful in showing the horrific events and sheer violence amidst the war. The views from the claustrophobic cockpits of  B-17s is very thrilling and nerve-wracking to watch at times. Similarly, you can see the impact, attack from the enemies, and the explosion.

In an еagеrly awaitеd collaboration and rеnownеd filmmakеr Stеvеn Spiеlbеrg and cеlеbratеd actor Tom Hanks join forcеs for a grippin’ WWII limitеd sеriеs sеt to prеmiеrе on Applе TV+. Thе dеcision to rеlеasе two еpisodеs initially and followed by a wееkly cadеncе and adds an intriguing dynamic to thе viеwin’ еxpеriеncе.
